Hindi Diwas celebrated in NSW Parliament

14 December was Hindi Diwas and Bhavan Australia celebrated the day in the New South Wales Parliament by honouring people from the community for their contribution towards the development of Hindi language.

Among the persons honoured were Mr. Anuj Kulshreshtha, Editor of the newly launched Hindi online newspaper “Hindi Gaurav” and its patron and noted poet Dr. Shailja Chaturvedi, Mrs. Mala Mehta, Principal of Bal Bharti Hindi School, Rajiv Chaturvedi, Pradeep Upadhayay,, Mrs. Gunjan Tripathi, Mrs. Meera Raheja, Ms. Richa Srivastava, Mrs. Mrs. Vimla Luthra, Mrs. Iktedar Abidi. Mrs. Nirumpama Verma, Mr. Dhanraj Chaudhary, Mrs. Rekha Rajvanshi and Mr. Sanjeev Sharma. Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services, Mr. Laurie Ferguson gave away the awards.

This is the third year in succession that Bhavan Australia(Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) is celebrating the occasion. Bhavan Australia is an Indian organisation headed by Mr. Gambhir Watts that has been committed to the promotion of Indian culture and traditions. One of its directors Mr. Abbas Raza Alvi , who is a noted Hindi and Urdu poet presided over the function that had leader of the house, Mr. John Acquilina.

Mr. Acquilina and Mr. Ferguson also released a book Guldasta which is a collection of 47 Hindi and Urdu poets Guldasta, a book having collection of Hindi and Urdu original poetry contributed by the professional and amateur poets of Indian Subcontinent heritage residing in Australia

In Guldasta, the writers express their feeling and experiences of the Australian Life and its impact on the culture. Guldasta is in Hindi (Devanagri Script) and Urdu (Urdu Script) incorporating transliterations—Hindi poetry to Urdu Script and Urdu poetry to Devnagri Script. The poetries in the book are on a variety of subjects like creativity, art, social, day to day life in Australia, emotions, feeling of migrants and unity in the world.
