Sydney girl Sanghmitra Kumar’s Bollywood dreams are going to be realised soon with two of her films “Idiot Box” and “Bhavnaon ko samjho” are being released back-to-back on 15th January, 2010
“Bhavnaon ko samjho” is an out and out comedy in which there are 52 comedians, including the Producer and Director Sunil Pal, the Indian Laughter Challenge Champion and Johnny Lever. The second one “The Idiot Box” a rather mischevious and funny with the story based on the gimmicks of the TRPs. On the eve of the music launch of ” Idiot box” Sanghmitra was interviewed by a film magazine in Mumbai: Here are the excerpts from the interview.
1) Tell us about your role in “Idiot Box”.
I play the role of Sangeeta, Sumana’s best friend. Sangeeta is mischievous, cheeky, witty and sarcastic and is responsible for a few twists and turns which shape the second half of the film but you would have to watch the film to know what those twists are!
2) How you got this role?
Like the saying goes that with the film industry, its all about being at the right place at the right time! I was informed about the auditions for the film so I auditioned and today here I am!
3) What is so special in this role so you said yes to do this film?
“Idiot box” is a brilliant intellectual comedy. The script and concept of the film are fresh and a much needed break from the traditional “running around trying to find a treasure chest” comedies. Sunando ventured a completely undiscovered concept and it was impossible to say no!
4) What type of feedback you are expecting from this role and film?
A positive one of course! *fingers crossed*
The entire cast and crew of the film have put their best efforts in and it clearly shows throughout the film. As an actor its my job and my passion to give it my 200% percent so really hoping that people like the film!
5) Tell us about family background.
I hail from a very simple middle class family. My father is an ex assistant editor of the Hindustan Times and mother an ex assistant director to the Indian Air Force. Unfortunately, they had to quit their jobs when we moved to Sydney, Australia. I have an angelic elder brother who is currently settled in Sydney.
6) Your earlier assignments i.e. film, tv, modelling, video albums etc.
I was 8 years old when I participated in a children’s workshop at the National School of Drama, New Delhi, from there on I worked as a child artiste in many T.V. serials, documentary films and telefilms. I, then relocated to Sydney, Australia to complete my basic education, where I hosted radio programs and television program. I also studied Drama and Performing Arts for 2 years before moving to Mumbai.
My last show, before moving to Australia, was Lekh Tandon’s “Kahan se kahan tak” on Zee TV.
I am currently the brand ambassador for a brand called “Nikhaar” and have worked in episodic TV serials such as C.I.D. and “Hadsaa” and many more.
7) Are you settled in Australia or want to make your mark in Bollywood?
When I started working on camera as a child artiste, my parents soon realised that my studies at school were suffering, hence, in order to complete my basic education I moved to Australia. Now that I am through with school, I am in Mumbai looking forward to a career with the Hindi Film Industry, and I think I am on the right track!
8) Apart from “Idiot Box” any other assignments on floor?
I have worked as a main lead in another Hindi film, also a comedy, scheduled to release in 2010 so the audience shall soon come to know!
