SBS radio Punjabi Executive Producer Manpreet Kaur Singh, and SBS World News Radio journalist, Sacha Payne, were honoured with Silver in the Best Special Report category for their multi-award winning feature ‘The Enemy Within’.
The report takes a confronting look at domestic violence within Australia’s Indian community. It was nominated for a Walkley Award and received a 2013 United Nations Association of Australia Media Award for Increasing Awareness and Understanding of Women’s Rights and Issues.

SBS had two other finalists in this year’s awards, with SBS radio Russian Executive Producer Sima Tsyskin nominated in the Best Human Story category for ‘The Bells of Mechelen’, a personal tale following Tsyskin’s journey to trace the fate of her grandfather, a victim of Nazi Germany’s deportation of Jews from Belgium during WWII.
Digital radio station SBS PopAsia, Australia’s first national radio station dedicated to Asian pop music, was a finalist in the Best Alternative Format category.
The New York Festival’s International Radio Program Awards recognise the world’s best radio programs and programming at an international level, with finalists from 24 countries recognised in 2014.
